What's Your Learning Style?

My Scores:
  • Auditory: 35%
  • Visual: 40%
  • Tactile: 25%
I am a Visual learner!

Visual

If you are a visual learner, you learn by reading or seeing pictures. You understand and remember things by sight. You can picture what you are learning in your head, and you learn best by using methods that are primarily visual. You like to see what you are learning.
As a visual learner, you are usually neat and clean. You often close your eyes to visualize or remember something, and you will find something to watch if you become bored. You may have difficulty with spoken directions and may be easily distracted by sounds. You are attracted to color and to spoken language (like stories) that is rich in imagery.
Here are some things that visual learners like you can do to learn better:
  • Sit near the front of the classroom. (It won't mean you're the teacher's pet!)
  • Have your eyesight checked on a regular basis.
  • Use flashcards to learn new words.
  • Try to visualize things that you hear or things that are read to you.
  • Write down key words, ideas, or instructions.
  • Draw pictures to help explain new concepts and then explain the pictures.
  • Color code things.
  • Avoid distractions during study times.
Remember that you need to see things, not just hear things, to learn well.

My Opinion Essay

Are you carrying cash right now? In modern days, the variety  of non-cash payment methods is increasing and people are getting used to those methods. I do not deny that because we are living in a technology era however people better pay in cash because it helps shopkeeper's income, vitalizes an economy and your income.

Shop owners have trouble of earning profits because of card fees. Big companies like E-marts and GS supermarket, secure other income subtract from sales profit . However, private businesses are focusing on one business so they have one way of income. Therefore, people using credit cards can be a big burden to shop owners. Also because of card fees, shop owners hate credit cards, they make cash payment sale reduction. For example, in massage shops, it became a natural thing that there are two separate prices; one is cash payment price which is cheaper than the other credit card payment price.

Paying in cash vitalizes an economy. There is a saying that ‘ Cash has to be circulated’. If you look at people’s wallets on streets now, I am sure they do not have cash but only credit cards or they even do not carry wallets. For me, because I hate paying a small fee with a credit card, naturally I look for a bigger market rather than going to a small shop near me. Moreover,  you can register the cash receipt system which is receiving an income tax deduction at year-end tax adjustment in Korea. This can be of help to your income especially for the family income if you are a housewife struggling to saving money.

On the other hand, some people argue that using cash does have few drawbacks. People could lose cash, and if they forget a wallet they would pay more to get it. Also carrying a wallet could be a bit of a nuisance and heavy. For instance, at a beach, we hardly see any wallet among people who wear few clothes and bring not much with them. Even, in the future or very soon there are many articles and cases about a human microchip implant which contains informations such as personal identification, medical history, medications, allergies, and contact information.

Changing people’s habit of payment is not easy especially when they know conveniences of paying with credit cards. However, paying in cash definitely has many advantages - supporting  an economy, your earnings  and shopkeepers’ revenue notably in open markets . People should start to think of the reasons and consider paying in cash. Taking the first step is always the hardest.

A Reflection on Week#3 discussions

I was amazed and interested after watching the video about the differences between Asians and Westeners thoughts and cultures of language. I think one of the big difference between them is Westerners have strong individualities whereas Asians are the opposite. Especially in Korea, there is a word 'Jung-정' which means attachment and we say ' You have a lot of Jung'. The other big difference is Asians do not have creativity like Westerners have. To support this, we believe it is a good culture that if parents set a path for offspring and they should follow that path. May be because of this, many Asians have a hard time thinking about their real future and what they want. Also, Westerners are more open minded so they do not have a bad prejudice about tattoo and we can see so many various and characteristics.
I hope good things between Asians and Westerners' culture and thoughts combine well in future.

What materials, tools, and/or sites have been most useful to you as a language learner?
For me, watching or listening the medias has been the most useful material to me as a language learner. I once heard that listening English 6 hours a day help English listening skill so I occionally listen to Arirang Radio. It is fun because the contents of this are various. They are suitable for young generations because some Korean celebrities appear on the radio. Also the hosts are bilingual, they teach new words and say same sentence twice in English and in Korea. It is really helpful.

Can you think of times when you learned language by the different historical approaches…
   - Grammar Translation Method?

At school, and Hak Wons, i learned so many grammars but i never remember them

    - Audiolingual?

I learned many dialogues in English classes at school.  First we heard conversations  then practice with partners.

- Communicative Language Teaching?

During study in university, i took several conversation classes that had CLT

Which have you experienced the most?

It's GTM that i have the most experienced but sadly i'm not good at grammar.

How will you balance these approaches as a teacher?

I will use grammar traslation method as lightly as possible like a game for example I will make matching games for sentences or idiom pharases that goes together so students can learn and aquire grammar easily.
For audiolingual, I will play a famous song among students, so they can listen and dictate as they have a jolly time.
Then students can communicate themselves with free talking. That way they wouldn't have a pressure of using English.

A reflection about what was discussed during class

Our group spent much time of talking about 'i+1'input but we all only thought of 2 common ideas. one is reading English books that are published for childeren like Penguin Publisher and the other is watching media with subtitles. In my English learning life these really helped me improve my English.   When i choose an english book first i see a sentence and find words that i donot understand. if i find more than 2 ~3 unfamiliar words i drop it and find another book. Also personally there are steps with watching media, at the very first i saw children's media like Sponge Bob and when i get used to this and understand i watched sitcoms such as Malcom in the Middle and Friends. Then I began to saw movies and soap dramas and still see them with subtitles.

THE END

creative writing

When I was a highschool student, all day I was a skygazer and wanted to be astronomy. So after school I always made a pit stop in a park because sky looks more beautiful with green nature. But as I was not a brainy student I gave my dream up quickly. Anyway since I was a far from my homeI had homesick many times. Then my Korean friend gave me all sorts of Korean movies. Even though I cringe every time I see scary or too violent movies, they are my favourite genres. One of my fancy action movies is called AJuSsi, a hero owned a pawn shop to have a quiet life because he was hiding his identity. But one day his young friend who the hero feels pampers about her was taken by bad people who are vendors of organs and gyp. So he went off on a tangent to save that friend in spite of exposing himself. The bad guys did not know he was a short fuse and a dangerous person who was trained by a nation. The ending was he finally save the girl and arrested for murders. I felt so angry and sad that he got arrested.
